I was getting ready for a nursing home ministry/prison ministry, and I wanted to get some large print and giant print Bibles. Before buying them in bulk, I wanted to buy one of each and then decide. I mixed them in with some Bibles that I already owned. You can benefit from what I learned from the experience. They are all text only old KJV. The Bible you see in the picture to the left are from top to bottom: The Gideons Hotel Bible, The Book of Psalms Trinitarian Bible Society (TBS), Local Bible Church Publishers (LCBP) Standard Bible, large print standard text only Cambridge Bible, giant print New Testament by Cambridge, The Gospels and Psalms giant print by Cambridge, The New Testament by Trinitarian Bible Society, giant print hardback Bible by LCBP, and on the bottom LCBP's Notetaker's Bible.
As you can see the TBS New Testament and the Cambridge New Testament are exactly the same. The TBS is more expensive, but you can get a 4 volume set from them that will include the entire Bible.
My top picks:
Best Giant Print Bible (These are the Bibles I take to the prisons) - LCBP vinyl Giant Print Bible ---$8
Best Super Giant Print Bible (These are the Bibles I take to the nursing homes) - LCBP John, Romans, and Psalms 24 point. Huge print and the only super large print Bible that does lose words in the gutter. You have to call and ask for this one, it is not on their website. Item #90 ---$9
Best Large Print Bible for preaching and soul winning - Cambridge Large Print Standard Text ---usually less than $60
Best Large Print Bible for the money - LCBP Standard Bible --- $25
The note taker's Bible is great for anyone who like to write in there Bible. I use this as my main at home study Bible --- $60
Best substitute for handing out tracts is the John and Romans scripture portions produced by Bearing Preciouse Seed (BPS). These are 10 cent apiece. They do not have any writing from man other than "go to page 44" etc. And then the scripture is underlined, and then there is another scripture and another that leads them through the plan of salvation without ever having any doctines of men included. It is pretty much the Roman Road of Salvation with some verses from John thrown in. They do not try to add any verses out of context that would make it seem as if there are works needed for salvation. The plan of salvation is by grace through faith plus nothing. You have to call to order these.
BPS also has paperback New Testaments with very clear large print with about the same plan of salvation for 60 cents.
Bearing Preciouse Seed and Local Church Bible Publishers are the same organization and can be reached at 517-882-2112
Or go to this website http://www.localchurchbiblepublishers.com/
I got my Cambridge Bible on www.amazon.com
Why did I want text only Bibles?
- I do not like Bibles with doctrines of men added to the text, footnotes that say things like "corrupt texts, or the best texts say this differently," and the verse references take up so much room that the text is much smaller.
Why did I want the King James Version?
- It is the most accurate, trusted, beautiful, powerful, majestic translation of the Bible ever recorded. Also, most nursing home residents were raised on this version. The majority of people who preach in the prisons use this version, and this is usually the version that is given to prisoners when they request a Bible.
